Keri Cheechoo, University of Ottawa

Keri Cheechoo, a Cree woman from the community of Long Lake #58 First Nation, is currently a PhD Candidate in the Faculty of Education Program at the University of Ottawa. Through her research, Keri proposes to address the missing histories of the dehumanizing state-sponsored policy of forcing sterilization on Indigenous women as part of her commitment toward the educational mandates of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Her arts-based autobiographical research seeks to situate and complicate her identity as an Indigenous woman, and the ways in which it intersects with themes such as, but not limited to colonization, racism, reconciliation, and resurgence.
