History

The Canadian Domestic Homicide Prevention Initiative (CDHPI) was developed in partnership with the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children at Western University and the Centre of Study of Social and Legal Responses to Violence at the University of Guelph.  Funding for the CDHPI was provided by the Canadian Women’s Foundation.

The CDHPI is an information depository that features annual reports from DVDRCs across Canada and internationally.  This includes: reports, educational materials, and key findings developed through research, inquests, and committee reviews; guides and information on how to implement a death review committee in your own community; learning opportunities (e.g., conferences, training) currently available; and links to other websites associated with domestic violence and homicide prevention.

The overall objective of the CDHPI is to provide a centralized repository of information on domestic homicide review and prevention, with a Canadian focus, that can be accessed by academic and community professionals and the general public.  Considering the recentness of the development of death review committees in Canada, the CDHPI will serve as a foundation to build a national partnership between DVDRCs and enhance communication, collaboration, and information sharing at a national level.
