Randal David, Western University
Randal is a PhD student in the School & Applied Child Psychology program at Western University supervised by Dr. Peter Jaffe. For his MA thesis, supervised by Dr. Katreena Scott, he developed an original coding scheme to analyze father’s descriptions of their children to better understand how fathers who have been abusive in their families perceive their children and the parent-child relationship compared to fathers who have not. He has also collaborated on a report for the Department of Justice on programming responses for domestic violence across Canada. In clinical practice, he has been a group facilitator delivering the Caring Dads program through a cross-cultural lens, specifically tailoring it for African/Caribbean fathers, and groups for children who have been exposed to domestic violence. For his dissertation, he is interested in looking at domestic homicide in immigrant communities.
